How to write about page personal brand

As a Personal brand, it's important to showcase your authentic self to stand out amidst the noise of the internet. In this digital age, establishing a genuine connection with your audience is crucial for building trust and loyalty.

Your About Page is the place where you share your values, tell your story and emotionally connect to your audience and build trust through reference points. In this article, we'll guide you through the process of creating an authentic "About" page that truly reflects who you are. So, let's embark on this journey of self-discovery and learn how to write an engaging and authentic "About" page for your personal brand!

Know yourself & embrace the real YOU

The first step in crafting an authentic "About" page is to understand yourself. Take some time to reflect on your passions, values, and experiences. What makes you unique? What drives you? How did you become the person you are today and how can you help clients through your experiences? By digging deep into your own story, you'll be better equipped to present an honest and genuine portrayal of yourself to your audience.

Show Your Personality

Your "About" page is an opportunity to showcase your personality and let your quirks shine through. Don't be afraid to inject humor, wit, or even a touch of sarcasm into your writing. Remember, you're not just a business entity; you're a human being with a unique voice. Let that voice be heard loud and clear in your About page.

Craft a Captivating Opening

The opening lines of your About page are your chance to grab your readers' attention and make them want to learn more. Think of it as a captivating hook that reels them in. You can start with an intriguing question, an amusing anecdote, or a bold statement that piques curiosity. Be creative and let your personality shine through!

Decide if you want to use the first or third person

Unless you are already a big personal brand like Oprah Winfrey or Bill Gates, I recommend writing your about page in first person “I am a counsellor and therapist who…” instead of using the third person “She is a counsellor… “since third person writing rather creates distance than connection. Third person writing also makes sense to use if you are also introducing you with a team and give small introductions to each of them.

    Tell Your Story

Your story is what sets you apart from the crowd. Share the journey that led you to where you are today. Be honest and vulnerable, highlighting both your successes and failures. Remember, authenticity is about being real, and your story is a powerful tool to connect with your audience on an emotional level.

Connect Your Story with Those of Your Clients

Your About Page is not a CV nor a repetition of your home page. While it is about you, great pages find the great turn to make it still about the reader and potential clients. How is your story going to help your clients? What learnings did you take from your life lessons that are now helping you to support them? Write about yourself but make a twist to focus the attention on how you help your potential clients with this.

    Connect with Your Audience

Demonstrate that you understand your audience's needs, desires, goals, and pain points. Show empathy and communicate how you can help them overcome their challenges. By establishing a connection with your readers, you'll build trust and credibility.

    Showcase Your Expertise

Highlight your skills, knowledge, and accomplishments in a way that demonstrates your expertise. However, avoid sounding arrogant or overly promotional. Instead, present your achievements in a humble and relatable manner. Remember, authenticity is about being genuine, not boastful.

    Incorporate Visuals

A picture is worth a thousand words, and the same goes for your "About" page. Include high-quality images that reflect your personality and brand. These could be photos of you in action, your workspace, or even your hobbies. Visuals add depth and make your page more engaging.

    Make It Reader-Friendly

Your "About" page should be easy to read and navigate. Break up your content into smaller paragraphs, use subheadings, and consider using bullet points to highlight key information. Keep the language simple and avoid industry jargon that may confuse your readers. If you are not sure if it is simple enough, have someone proof-read it for you who is not familiar with your topic of expertise.

    Showcase Testimonials

Testimonials are a great way to support anything you just mentioned about yourself in your about page. They are gold on about pages, because it is one thing to talk about your own skills but another to have them directly confirmed by a testimonial. If your testimonials have provided you with a huge amount of text, then take out the parts that are supporting what you just said or are the most noteworthy. 3-4 sentences are good - not more. If your website visitors see a chunk of text, they won’t even start reading them. If possible, provide the name, business name and a photo of your testimonials - this nourishes your readers’ trust.

End with a Call to Action

Wrap up your "About" page with a compelling call to action, to lead potential clients to the page you like them to go. A good place could either be your services page (if you like them to learn more about your services first) or direct them straight to your contact page.
